Tips: How to make Entourage work for you
- Make Entourage delegate correctly –
In order for Entourage to delegate and view delegates properly, you need to make some changes to the default configuration. Even after this, you will only be able to give delegate rights to other Entourage users – that is only people who have never accessed their account through Outlook on a PC. Sound ridiculous… it is.
Microsoft’s official position on this is the following: “Before a delegate can access your e-mail, contacts, and calendar in Entourage, you must first use Microsoft Outlook to specify delegate settings and to give the delegate at least reviewer permission to the root level of the Exchange mailbox. For more information, see the Entourage Help topic, "Set up delegate access in Outlook." (from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871016)
Here’s what to do in order to at least partially enable delegation (thanks to http://www.mackb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/entourage/11646/Solution-to-inability-to-Delegate-error-65486) : Run Microsoft Office Updater to be sure you have the latest updates, then quit Entourage. From your Dock or Applications folder, open System Preferences.Navigate to Network > Built-in Ethernet > TCP/IP and in the Search Domains line add ad.uchicago.edu (use a comma to separate this from previous entries).Open Entourage and go to Entourage Menu > Account Settings… then double click on the account which ends in (Exchange). In Account Settings, change the Exchange server from evs01.ad.uchicago.edu to evs01 (simply remove the “.ad.uchicago.edu”).Click OK, enter your password if requested, and then close and re-open Entourage.Navigate to Entourage Menu > Account Settings… > Exchange > Delegate. To grant another Entourage user access to your folders, click Add… under My Delegates, choose their permissions, then click OK.To grant an Outlook user access to your folders, you must use a Windows machine to log into Outlook and create the delegate there, then add them to My Delegates (otherwise you will receive an error after you chose their permissions). Click here for full instructions. To view another user’s folder who has made you a delegate, click Add… under Users I am a delegate for.Once you have completed this, you should be able to view all of the folders you have access to through the appropriate view in the main window.Apparently there's an easier solution... thanks to the kind SEAWSS folks.
- In the Calendar view, right click Calendar [xMail] and select Sharing.
- Click Add User... then Advanced...
- In the Domain field enter "adlocal" and then in the Account ID field enter the CNet ID of the user you want to give rights to.
- Click OK twice, then select the user and chose their permission level.
- The user can now view or edit your calendar.
